David Ferrugio was 12 years old when his father, David Francis Ferrugio, went to work at the World Trade Center and never came home.

Twenty-five years later, that grief has become his life's work. Now 37 and based in Los Angeles, he hosts the podcast DEAD Talks, where he interviews celebrities and everyday people about their grief journeys.

Winds in the voices, songs in the trees, ghosts to talk, holy, mean, and nasty, trips to hell and back, angels in the winds. Good times, god ties, heads to count, only the young at heart. I thought.. If that’s the way you think.. the Creator will take care of you in time. One day you will wake up and there wont be any more .

This month, he also released a book titled "You're Not Dead Yet," sharing lessons drawn from decades of processing unimaginable loss.

Ferrugio describes losing a parent as walking into a different dimension, where everything shifts, even when death is expected. He spent years internalizing his pain before learning the power of speaking about it openly. He credits COVID-19 with pushing American culture toward more honest conversations about death and grief, and sees death itself as two sides of the same coin as life.
On the 25th anniversary, he plans to be in New Jersey with family before heading into the city to mourn alongside Cantor Fitzgerald, the company his father worked for. He expects laughs alongside tears, and finds comfort in telling stories that keep his dad alive for nieces and nephews born after 9/11. Though he respects the "never forget" sentiment, he admits, half-jokingly, that one year off from the reminders would be welcome. His message to others: use the day to be present, because the events of that morning showed just how fast everything can change.
